On my bucket list of fun things to do… A bubbly run. I saw a lady on TikTok who ran a full marathon while drinking beer and champagne on the way, baby girl looked like she was having the time of her life. When I saw the ad for the Valdo Bubbly Run, after missing it last year, I knew this was an affair I’d be part. Who to go with? A friend that I’ve been meaning to catch up with over mimosa’s, who’s also a runner so it’ll be a fun activity for both of us.
28 November, Randpark Golf Club transformed into a sparkling haven as it hosted the Valdo Bubbly Run. The scenery, weather, and atmosphere were perfect. Whether you are walking or running, this unique 5km event combined the joy two activities that created an unforgettable experience for us.
The event kicked off at 6pm with a festive atmosphere, 1km into the race we all couldn’t wait for the first bubbly stop. When we finally reached the first stop, it offered a Brut variant. I’m not sure it was a great place to start because it went straight to the knees. I saw a few people who were forward-thinking and brought water bottles. The rest of us soldiered on to the next stop.
The second stop was a Rose variant, my kind of stuff. This was a refreshing stop, but most of us wanted to it to be the last stop. Can we stop the run and continue to have bubbles? The scenery also provided beautiful photo opp’s. As the sun began to set, the course came alive with twinkling lights, adding to the magical ambiance.
The third stop felt like we had completed a marathon, we were 4km’s in. We came across a mother and her twins planning a shortcut to the end. We helped them achieve their goal, we saw her at the end with a glass in hand, halfway through the cup. How some people were running amazed me. At the beginning, I was wary of the small cups, but at the fourth stop, I appreciated the small cups. The fourth cup came with a cute medal, which was a beautiful way to seal it off.
Overall, the Valdo Bubbly Run was delightful; the good company, and good bubbly. I made lots of friends; some of which invited me to their social runs. It was a lovely afternoon to unwind, socialize, and create lasting memories. My favorite memory was a lady who was staring at my friend the whole race and insisted she knew him from somewhere. It was only at the end that she dared to ask him where she knew him from. It was funny to watch. I hope she eventually remembered cause my friend didn’t give her an answer, and I could only laugh.
If you missed this year’s event, be sure to mark your calendar for next year’s Valdo Bubbly Run. It’s an experience that promises to leave you bubbly and bright.
