Yep… This year I finally decided to run the Big C. It has taken a while for the reality to sink in, but here we are after 6 months of preparation, and all the emotions of it all.
In the beginning, there was…
I started January with an intense running streak. My ultimate goal? To get back to peak fitness.
Back in 2019, I was at my fastest and most consistent. I ran my first marathon and showed all the positive signs of being strong enough, both physically and mentally, to take on the Comrades Marathon. Then, lo and behold, March arrived. A …
For two years, I’ve seen the Basketball Africa League billboards at the tail end of the season. This year, I finally stopped being a spectator from the sidelines of the highway. I set the reminder and set an intention to be at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria to see the spectacle for myself.
About the Basketball Africa League (BAL)
The Bal was established in 2019. It is Africa’s premier men’s basketball league, a joint initiative between NBA Africa and FIBA (International Basketball Federation). Although it was established in 2019, the first season was held in 2021, and thus far, five different champions have won the competition. Each …
They call it “Joburg’s Toughest 21,” and every year, thousands of us flock to Greenside to prove… well, I’m not sure what we’re proving, but we certainly feel it in our calves. I first ran this race in 2019, the saying “it gets better with time” might not apply with this race.
The Morning Chill: Better Cold than Bold
The morning started with that unmistakable morning cold. It was freezing, the kind of cold that makes you question your life choices while standing in the starting pen. I was dressed in a short t-shirt, and short tights. I regretted this decision but as any seasoned …
There we were, on a Saturday morning at Cradle Moon getting ready for a hike. For many this was probably the first exercise of the year, with the promise to keep it up in 2026. For some like me, nervous to be hiking with a group of people I don’t know.
There was a very specific ground rule: No work talk. No selling. No “value adds.”
The silence that followed that instruction was loud, and it was followed by laughter. This revealed the uncomfortable truth about where hustle culture has landed us: we’ve become so entangled with our titles and our “grind” that we’ve forgotten how …

First of all… Happy 2026 my Love. And what better way to do that than with a live performance from the lens of Asake. My first introduction to him was in 2023 with a song he featured on, Happiness by Sars, Asake, and Gunna. My curiosity about Asake grew and I found the song, MMS where he features Wizkid and every song I’ve discovered after that made me appreciate his art even more. Seeing his RedBull Symphonic solidified that I will see him live on the 3rd of January at The Dome in Johannesburg.
The Prelude
The evening began with a showcase of …

If there is one thing Oskido knows how to do; it is gathering us (Ma1K) together to take us on a trip down memory lane. This past weekend, I finally attended Oskido’s Big Day Out , a sanctuary for those of us who grew up on the basslines of Kwaito and old skool house music.
The Big Day Outside
I have to give Oskido his flowers for the logistics. Days before the event there was heavy rain, many of us were expecting a muddy disaster. But walking in to find the grass covered in straw was a masterstroke. It was such a thoughtful touch and it …

On a random Friday, I made my way to Naledi Farm, and let me tell you — it was such a treat! Tucked away in Centurion, it’s one of those places that immediately makes you slow down and breathe a little deeper. The moment you arrive, there’s this calm energy; open spaces, greenery, and that gentle quiet that makes you forget you’re not too far from the city.
Breaking Bread
One of my favorite parts of the day was definitely the bread baking. This was the first activity after introductions, and it set the tone so perfectly. The owners of Naledi Farm shared …

The Delicious Festival was this past weekend. This year I opted to go on Sunday and yes, Lauryn Hill was my main drawcard. I went in with cautious optimism, and let’s just say my expectations and reality didn’t exactly hold hands.
The Food
First things first: the food. Or should I say, the lack of it (for me, anyway). The Delicious Fest is an international food and music festival; the food is meant to be half the experience, but as usual, vegetarian options were few and far between. The only stall I spotted was a tofu stand. Otherwise, the meat lovers had a …
Hey love…It’s been a while. Life has been lifing, and it required me to be still. So still, that even writing felt too loud.
But here I am, slowly returning to myself, piece by piece. Here’s a little update on life lately. Where do I even begin?
Hurt…
So there I was, looking forward to the June 16 long weekend. Nothing fancy was planned; I just needed rest, a moment to catch my breath. Little did I know, I was rushing toward the day my beloved grandmother would take her last breath. Two months later, it still feels unreal. The occurrences of June 16 are still …
On the 6th of June, something extraordinary happened at Monte Casino. It wasn’t your usual Amapiano party, nor was it a typical night at the theatre. It was a beautiful, bold experiment: The Redbull Symphonic with Kelvin Momo in collaboration with the Egoli Orchestra — a live orchestral interpretation of Momo’s signature sound, with a live orchestra.
From the moment we stepped into the venue, it was clear that this was going to be a different kind of night. The stage was dressed for something grand: string sections, brass instruments, and a sea of microphones stood alongside DJ decks and keyboards. Amapiano was about to trade the dancefloor …
