POWER Experience with Kgoshigadi Rangata

Maaaaaan… What a journey, it’s finally hitting me that we are here. Back on radio, weekly.

The Announcement

Just before the announcement I let it go because we had been praying about this. I had made peace with staying in my lane, standing in for other presenters, and doing traffic bulletins whenever they needed me. One afternoon I was minding my own business, busy with another campaign and I was called into a meeting to discuss something. After months of nagging my manager to try me out with a show during the day, she sat me down and said; there’s an opportunity that came up, when she mentioned the time slot I couldn’t hold back the tears. My heart burst with excitement, and relief! I literally said “Finally”. I walked out of there and cried some more and texted my best friend Makhotso. She immediately video called me, also in tears of joy!

I sent my guy a “how does POWER Experience with Kgoshigadi Rangata sound?” text. And he said, I told You it was coming!

Another Day at “work”

Now I work 6 days a week. Apparently. It takes so much effort to produce and host a show but I’ve positioned myself for this for so long that spending a weekend day at work is a non-issue. In fact, it works out perfectly fine. A friend said to me, now You have to be very strict with who You spend Your time with because You have a one day to unplug. Unplugging for us means being away from Your phone and work. It didn’t make sense then. Three months later, I get it. I tried to run errands on a Sunday and felt super tired on Monday. Sundays are reserved for la dolce far niente. The art of doing nothing. Whatever that means for me!

Finding my Feet

In true human style, I wanted to start the show sprinting. I had a million and one show features and ideas that I wanted to implement. I was asked to ease into it. That was a beautiful idea, I didn’t realise how much went into the show until I was behind the desk and the mic. The news, the sports, the ads, the live reads. FYI, I’m alone in the studio. Usually, the presenters have content and technical producers running the show with them. The first show was a shock to the system but we got the hang of it. It didn’t get easier, I got better. I didn’t have a choice.

Now we’re doing interviews baby… Lol. So far we’ve had three conversations, with Zano, Revolution and the Jaziel Brothers. This part of what I love doing (hosting conversations) is what sparked my managers interest by the way. The programs manager happened to see one of the Kgoshigadi Says conversations on InstaLive and asked why I wasn’t doing anything on air. Look at us now…

The Support System

My family and friends have been nothing short of amazing. You know it’s usually said that people who don’t know You are the best supporters, not my Loved ones. If there was ever a slot to call in, they would fill up the phone lines. From the first show, my dad calls to ask if I ate and advises that I do not drink any fizzy drinks because it will mess up my voice. I don’t know who told him that, but it’s true. My siblings interact with content and ask others to listen, my guy sends text messages throughout the show when he hears his favorite songs. I mean, how does it get better than this?

Above all else, I’m grateful that they held my hand through the journey. I don’t think it’s settled in that we’re doing this every Saturday… We did it joe!

Doing it like we’re doing it for TV

Someone mentioned that I always look good on the show promo images for the show… Well, to know me is to know that I love looking good, it has become a daily thing. On the real though, I really enjoy looking good, and what I’ve done so far is effortless. Just tracksuits and nude lipstick. We’re doing it like we’re doing it for TV.

What’s next?

Well, many more years of joyful radio. The biggest thing for me, is to bring positive vibes on air and I hope it comes through. There are plans for Spring/Summer but we don’t announce until it happens right…
