I made it to SAFW after a 2-year hiatus. I was super excited about attending the show; excited to see what had changed, how SAFW made use of their sponsors, the setup [another blog for another day]…
Nonetheless, I was there for the Loxion Kulca 20 year anniversary show. A while back I wrote I blog post on the Come Back Kids to look out for, brands that I spotted making numerous appearances on social media, well… That blog was no lie. Loxion Kulca has such a rich history and it was a joy to watch how they celebrated their 20 year anniversary.

The first scene was of old images of Loxion Kulca (LK) on the SAFW ramp in previous years [PS; I had nostalgia because I was one of their backstage dresses back in the day]. That was followed by a young tribute to Pro, who was brand ambassador and HHP who had a range of t-shirts and sneakers with LK. As if that wasn’t a rememberable intro, they had a contemporary dancer who delivered a dramatic dance piece, wearing LK gear of course.
Then the first surprise was delivered; Reason performed his latest single Top 7, wearing a black and white 2 piece and a bucket hat.
The first range to come out was a very bright range; a mixture of bright colors and print. This was a beautiful showcase of streetwear gone glam. This was Loxion Kulca on another level. I loved the mixture of fabrics, this reminded me of the old LK.
The next range was refreshing; it showcased streetwear, redefined. I loved how the female wear was simple yet breathtakingly beautiful for what we normally consider streetwear. The styling was also spot on.
Then came another highlight of the night; Mapaputsi performing while LK displayed a more sophisticated range. He wore a colorful blazer, LK t-shirt, jeans, and an LK cap the way we know him to wear his caps. The crowd actually knew his songs word for word and reminisced on the good ol’ Kwaito days.

This performance was a beautiful treat. Even more beautiful was the well-fitted suits which had a touch of a House of Ole displayed. I later found out that it was a collabo with him [Ole]. I loved that even though this was a collabo, it always had Loxion Kulca aesthetic. That “ghetto” feel was always there no matter what.
Overall, this was an amazing show. Not for one moment was I bored or I felt like they tried too hard. They displayed their 20 year anniversary very well. The show was a reflection of where they come from and where they were going. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for the brand going forward.
