David Tlale X Avon Collaboration

So my first thought when I heard about the collaboration with David Tlale and Avon was; I wonder what that perfume will smell like.  I was excited that David would offer a his and her signature scent. The marketing manager of Avon SA laughed when I took him this and told us to be patient.

The Launch Venue And Deco

The launch took place at the Four Seasons Hotel in Westcliff. The deco was nothing short of glamorous and classy. I got to appreciate the views from the balcony. The landscape was green and perfectly manicured, there was white umbrellas and a black and white #DavidTlaleXAvon banner on the side. The waterfall by the registration complimented the bottomless bubbles that were served as after registration.

Meeting David Tlale

As usual, DT was dressed in black with gold accessories. When we first met him you could tell he was nervous, but who wouldn’t be with a big launch being a few hours away. We spotted black boxes in corner. Everyone took a guess; is it perfume, a scarf, sunglasses. No matter how many times we asked David what was in there, he would laugh and tell us to wait for the big reveal. After we spoke to him he was off to the garden to invite the guests into the venue for the commence of the launch.

The Guests

The guests included broadcasters; Melanie Bala and Bridget Masinga, TV personalities Kat Sivnavaan, Nina Hastie and influencers Tshepi Vundla and K Naomi, just to name a few. The launch was hosted by Thando Thabethe, she looked like she just stepped off a DT fashion show with a dramatic black outfit and blonde hair.

First to be announced on stage was Avon’s Group Vice President for Turkey, Middle East and Africa, Mafahle Marelet. He spoke to the guests about the Avon brand and how it rose to what it is today. He told the crowd that he first knew about David Tlale through his wife and as he researched the David Tlale brand, he knew he wanted to work with him.

The Big Reveal

He introduced David Tlale onto stage, and he came on with a gospel track in the background. He begun the speech by thanking everyone who held his hand through the process and most importantly thanked himself. The last bit got a stand innovation. He went on to share his journey with the the crowd “…it was a journey that started in 2018. I’ve always admired Avon’s values and always watched the woman in my community make a living from selling Avon.”

The big reveal was made through a fashion show; brand ambassadors Tatum Keshwar, Blue Mbombo and Liesl Laurie came on stage wearing DT garments while the black boxes we saw earlier came out. We had pleasure of being the first to see and wear the #DavidTlaleXAvon sunglasses. The frame was so David Tlale; square, over the top frame with a gold David Tlale label on the side.

I wouldn’t have picked out this frame for myself but it surprisingly looked amazing on me. The other items in the collection included a scarf, a sling bag and a hand bag. All three very bright and colorful. The sentiments from many was how excited they were to have David Tlale accessories.

The launch was a great experience, the after party was the cherry on top. We partied the night away on a Wednesday evening in our DT shades. The range will be on sale from 1 March 2020 from Avon reps and on the Avon website. As David said on the night; “Get yours now, let’s sell out”.
