The first time I heard of DFM was about 3 years ago; idling around waiting for my mom to finish her shopping. I know right, I was waiting for her to finish her shopping and I ended up shopping. Anyhoo, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw brands like River Island, FILA, ALDO, Ted Baker and Calvin Klein at affordable prices.

I recently got the opportunity to shop up a storm at DMF in East Gate. My first thought when I got there was; WOW this is a lot. I had flashbacks from a few years ago when I first visited the store. The rails were fully stocked with a lot of items but once I started, I got into the groove of things. Here are 5 tips to make your shopping experience smooth, pleasant experience.

- Wear clothes you don’t have to take off when you are fitting
I opted to wear tights and a lose fitting top with a boob tube bra underneath so that it’s easy for me to slip in and out of anything. It proved to be a great idea. I managed to wear a dress and a few tops without the hassle of taking everything off. Make the items you don’t take off neutral (nude, brown or black) so that it doesn’t distract your eyes from the outfit you’re trying on. I learned this trick from my mama.

2. Have a vision for your shopping
The DMF stores are filled with lots of clothes; all shapes, sizes and styles. It took me two days to get the two looks I wanted. The first day was overwhelming and I had a basket full of everything. Dresses, bags, tops and jeans. What helped me to get my treasures a bit quicker on the second day was that I had a vision board for the two outfits I wanted to put together. I split the budget in such a way that I had two items per outfit. The average item costs R500.

3. Remember to accessorize
DMF also has very cool accessories; jewellery, bags and scarfs. I saw cute bags from Kylie Kardashin’s 2018/2019 collection. Remember to grab those to compliment your newly found treasures. With the help of the friendly staff at DMF, I eventually narrowed down my options and picked a Steven Madden bag that goes easily from day to night effortlessly.

4. Don’t ask for a different size
I loved this beautiful, orange dress with an open back but it was two sizes bigger. I asked for a smaller size, with no avail. The sizes that are on the rails are the sizes that are available. If you get a different size, it’s an exception. The beauty of shopping at DMF is that once an item is sold, it’ll hardly ever be available again in any of the stores. What’s on the rail, is what’s available.

5. Off-peck Shopping
The best time to go shopping is during off-peak times, in my opinion. This means there’s less lines in the changing rooms and at the till. You get to take your time and enjoy the experience without the anxiety of having a lot of people on one rail.
