All I Can Say Is… Thank You 2024
December 29, 2024
View PostCan you believe we are here… The end of 2024, just yesterday I was writing about the end of 2023. I was talking to my colleague today after the show about 2024 and it helped me take a step back and reflect on the year and unlike last year, this year’s milestones were more internal than external. I’ve had to learn to find novelty and a sense of accomplishment internally. Life forced me to. Unlike last year, there were no award nominations or anything like that. Just lots and lots of reflections on who I am outside of the external “achievements”. Here’s what else came …
I am such a lucky girl when it comes to performances. I really am. On Thursday night, the SunBet Arena was pulsating with the heartbeat of South African music, with Msaki’s music to be specific. She gathered all her friends and gave us a spectacle and a half.
Camagu
Camagu is a Xhosa term that means to bless, appease, praise, honor, or let it be. The naming of the concert gave us an indication of what’s to come. Msaki’s “Camagu in Symphony: 10 Years of Gratitude” wasn’t just a concert; it was a transcendent experience. We sang, we cried and we danced all …
On my bucket list of fun things to do… A bubbly run. I saw a lady on TikTok who ran a full marathon while drinking beer and champagne on the way, baby girl looked like she was having the time of her life. When I saw the ad for the Valdo Bubbly Run, after missing it last year, I knew this was an affair I’d be part. Who to go with? A friend that I’ve been meaning to catch up with over mimosa’s, who’s also a runner so it’ll be a fun activity for both of us.
28 November, Randpark Golf Club transformed into a …

Have you ever run 21km with period pains knocking? That was me this year. I was telling my bestie that I was not sure if it was a brave, or stupid idea. But yeah it happened.
I decided it was on at the beginning of October: I’ll be running the half marathon. For those who know me to have run the 42km, you’ll also know I’ll never run that distance at Soweto again. The teething problems there are not my portion, I have the battle scars to prove I’ve been there and done that. I digress…
My training consisted of running 100 km …

Samke Mhlongo’s Ringfence is a raw, visceral exploration of the realities of four young women navigating the complexities of mordern life. Mhlongo delves into a world of these characters, revealing their vulnerabilities and strengths as they grapple with love, loss, ambition, and finding themselves. The book has many twists and turns. Just when you think you can predict the end, it offers a turn of events.
The Characters
At first glance, the cover and the title look like it’ll give you all the reasons to not get married but, the story of the characters is way more complex than that. The characters added a …

Another month, another novel. I must say, I enjoy reading novels more than I thought I would. In July I read Bantu Knots by Lebohang Mazibuko. What was meant to be a month read, turned into two weeks. From the moment I got my hands on the book, I was hooked. And I’m not just saying that because I went to tertiary with Lebohang.
In the Beginning There Was…
One of the things I loved about the book was the strategic use of vernacular proverbs that preface each chapter. These age-old wisdom nuggets, often delivered with a humorous twist in translation, but served as insightful preludes to …
Remember that incredible era of SA hip hop? When every township and city had its own crew putting their flavour on the scene? Mahikeng was no exception – Morafe, Mo Molemi, HHP, Fifi Cooper – these artists released music that defined a generation. Their energy even inspired the creation of Maftown Heights, a concert series, or rather a movement that originally started in Johannesburg but later moved to Mahikeng to celebrate these local legends. It was a beautiful moment for South African hip hop, showcasing the power of homegrown talent.
Last night had the opportunity to attend a special screening of the “Maftown Heights: …
MTN Bushfire, well well well. 2024, we finally went! I don’t know how many times I’ve wanted to go and talked myself out of it last minute. This year I told my sister I wanted to go, just as I was about to talk myself out of it again, her deposit was in and it was set and stone. WE ARE GOING TO eSWATINI!
In true Kgoshigadi style, I packed for every single weather condition imaginable. Hot? Super hot? Insanely …

We’re still taking a break from self-help books, and the second novel this year is “When the Filter Fades” by Janine Jellars. This book delves into the world of social media fame, where curated realities reign supreme. Or do they? The story follows three ambitious women in Johannesburg, all vying for a piece of the influencer pie. In a world where the moral compass is compromised for fame and fortune, the three characters Lin, Lebo and Mbali take us through their worlds, not without twists and turns.
Without giving away too much here is what I enjoyed about the book.
Relatable Characters
Jellars …

I’m so down for you… I’m so down for you baby…
Five days later, and I’m still riding the wave of joy and euphoria from one of the most enchanting performance to date. The crowd, the open field, the OOTD (outfit of the day), Simmy and most notably, Xavier Omar’s voice and stage presence. Join me as I recount when the magical journey that began.
