This past May, I had the absolute pleasure of attending Soulaced Sessions with Louie Vega — and let me tell you, it was everything my grown, soulful heart needed. Picture this: a crisp evening filled with deep house grooves, old school classics, and a crowd that knew how to move with intention. From the day I heard about this event I tuned into my favorite Louie Vega songs and solidified that I was going to see him perform live.
Closer to the night of the performance, no one was available to go with me and I had to bring out my social butterfly skills and fly solo. Within an hour, I was with a group of ladies that I spent most of the night with… Catch a lesson there, never be afraid to do it alone. Anyway, I digress… From the moment I arrived, the energy was unmistakable. You could feel it in the air: a collective understanding that we were here for the grown folk music, and the vibe. Every corner there was just beautiful people, dressed to the nines, ready to dance and lose themselves in sound.
The lineup delivered on every promise. Deep house music lovers got their fill, with track after track of hypnotic basslines and soulful vocals. Although this was an all day event, I arrived around 6:30pm. Just in time to see the headliner, Louie Vega. I am so grateful I opted to do my show first, which ended at 6pm. The ladies I was with arrived earlier and by the time Vega was on stage, let’s just say they might not recall anything unless they took video’s. It didn’t help that the bar only sold full bottles, and beverages in six packs only. This meant, you either went big, or opted for a sober night. I saw many others half asleep, moving right along.
A true legend, Louie commanded the decks with the kind of ease that only comes with decades of mastery. Every transition, every drop, every vocal sample — it was pure magic. He played with the crowd’s emotions, taking us on a journey through house music’s rich history, while still keeping it fresh and alive. Of course London Roots was part of the set, Bucie joined him and performed “Angels are watching me”, Wanda Baloyi also graced us with her presence and performed “Kissing you” and the creme dele ce was when he ended his set with an acoustic version of “Cerda de Mi”.
The only thing I didn’t appreciate was the beverages running out. Maybe selling the bevs in bulk caused the shortage but rather too much than too little.

Everything else about the night was magical. It wasn’t overcrowded, the sounded traveled to the back smoothly, and by the time the night wound down, my feet were sore, my voice was gone, and my spirit was full.
If you’re a lover of deep house, old school grooves, and beautifully curated grown & sexy experiences, this is one event you don’t want to miss when it rolls around again.
